
Pottery Instructor (Wheel & Hand-Building – Adults & Kids)
Location: Island Pottery & Studio, Mineola NY 11501
Job Type: Part-Time (with potential for expanded hours)
Compensation: Start at $18 hour

We are an award-winning pottery studio, proudly named “Best of Long Island” for the past three years and serving our creative community for over 12 years. We offer a supportive, inspiring environment where students of all ages come to explore, learn, and grow their ceramic skills.
Position Overview:
We are seeking passionate, skilled pottery instructors to teach wheel-throwing and hand-building classes for adults and children of all experience levels. Classes include beginner, intermediate, and mixed-level formats. This is a part-time position with flexible scheduling, and potential for growth into a long-term role.
Responsibilities:
- Lead engaging and educational classes in wheel throwing and/or hand building
- Instruct both adults and youth (ages 7–12 for hand-building; 12+ for wheel)
- Adapt teaching methods to accommodate all skill levels
- Foster a positive, encouraging classroom atmosphere
- Provide demos, guidance, and constructive feedback
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace before and after class
- Communicate effectively with studio staff, students, and parents
- Support studio events, workshops, and seasonal programs as needed
Qualifications:
- Proficient in wheel throwing and/or hand-building techniques
- Prior teaching experience (formal or informal) preferred
- Comfortable working with children, teens, and adults
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliable, organized, and enthusiastic about teaching pottery
- Knowledge of studio safety and ceramic materials
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Bonus Skills (Not Required):
- Experience with kiln loading/firing
- Surface decoration techniques (e.g., sgraffito, mishima, slip trailing)
- Bilingual abilities
