A golf course general
laborer is required to be able to complete a large variety of tasks throughout
the day. Tasks can be generally categorized as manual labor and are related to
landscaping. Maintenance tasks include: watering of plants, operating different
types of walking lawn mowers, cleaning and removal of debris, use of string
trimmers, operation of powered debris blowers, use of chainsaw, and operation
of other motorized equipment. Staff must have a valid driver license and be
able to drive various types of golf carts and utility vehicles in order to
complete the above tasks. In addition, employees are often called upon to
complete or assist in all tasks on the course including: special projects,
irrigation repair, fertilizer and chemical applications, and other general
maintenance tasks. Golf course laborers primarily work under the supervision of
the Director of Agronomy and Golf Course Superintendent. May work under the
supervision of a Foreman.
Skills and Qualifications.
• Must be able to provide valid legal working documents. (SSN card, DL or ID
Card)
• Ability to operate machinery such as push rotary mowers, string trimmers,
backpack blowers, utility vehicles, riding mowers, skid-steer, and tractors
preferred.
• Possess a valid driver’s license and ability to operate vehicles properly and
safely.
• Plant knowledge/golf course knowledge a plus.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions in English
• Ability to work in a team environment and operate in a safe, professional
manner at all times.
• Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and
holidays.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not
limited to, working outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and
moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying
items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.
• Ability to learn and navigate the property to complete assigned job tasks
• Ability to use simple housekeeping and yard maintenance tools.
• Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative
environment.
• Experience working in an environment with shifting priorities, demands and
timelines.
• Construction experience preferred, but not required.
• Able to work and perform manual labor in inclement weather conditions.
• Must wear protective gear as work requires, long-pants, steel-toed shoes.
