Amber Waves is a farm, market, and kitchen on the easternmost end of Long Island. The farm operates nearly 30 total acres on three fields, raising 20 acres of vegetables, 5 acres of grains, and a small flock of laying hens. The farm’s production serves a 250+ member CSA and on-site retail farm market and kitchen, a nearby weekly farmers market, and local restaurant wholesale accounts.
The Wash Pack manager is a dynamic and fast-paced position at the heart of the farm. Playing an essential role in the post-harvest process, the Wash Pack manager links the farm and harvest with our onsite retail market, kitchen, 250 family CSA, and wholesale accounts. The wash/pack manager will work closely with the Amber Waves market produce manager as well as the farm’s harvest manager to ensure the highest level of produce quality.
Core Responsibilities

Coordinating the sorting, washing, bunching, bagging, packing, labeling, and distribution of freshly harvested produce in the wash station each day

Cooler and backstock oversight

Overseeing up to five wash station crew members and a farm apprentice daily

Training new crew members

Updating the wash station whiteboards

Maintaining food safety (FSMA) guidelines

Preparing wholesale deliveries

Setting up and breaking down the wash station
Skills & Qualifications:
-
Wash/Pack experience is preferred but not required. Must have a passion for local food

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Experience in a management role is preferred

Must have strong communication skills and the ability to delegate tasks to supporting staff.

Able to multitask in a fast paced environment

Excellent time management and strong sense of pace and urgency associated with task completion

Ability to lift 50 pounds at a time
Work Schedule & Compensation:
-
Full time, shifts ranging from 8 hrs/day (early morning start time)
-
5/week in shoulder seasons, 6 days/week in peak harvest season
-
$17-22/hour, DOE
